Once a year for a week, the Jewish people build a hut and live in it for seven days. It must be under the open sky, with live branches or unprocessed wood on top — representing the time when the Jews left Egypt and lived in the desert as nomads for 40 years, protected and guided by the Clouds of Glory. It’s a week of stepping out of comfort and into faith, knowing that just as G-d protected our ancestors in the desert, He continues to watch over us today. The festival may be over, but the message remains.
